About The Alpaca Collection
The Alpaca Collection opened for business in 1993 when the owner, Richard Hartley, returned from extended travels in South America, on what was possibly an early mid life crisis. He fell in love with the region, despite being kidnapped, and decided he would like to give something back to the local communities he visited during his travels.
Our knitwear is designed both by our design team here in England and our own knitters in Peru and Bolivia. Generations of indigenous knitters have produced a myriad of wonderful designs and a large proportion of each Collection includes these unique styles and rich colours.
We produce a new Collection in January each year for the following Autumn and Winter. Delivery starts in August, although it is available from May for customers in tourist areas. A strong discount structure ensures that quantity purchases are recognised and rewarded.
We offer two distinct services. Our first class wholesaling service is operated on a normal commercial basis and can include knitting to Customers' individual designs, specifications and labelling. We also offer the opportunity for customers to work with us on a concession basis.
This has proved both successful and popular especially where our customer's main business is seasonal or where knitwear is not the main focus. Through funding, sourcing, providing PR and replenishing, we make it a pleasure for customers to sell Alpaca.
We believe that Alpaca is one of the finest yarns available and it makes for the most luxurious products. Our customers agree as over 80% reorder year on year. We chose the motto, "Quality you can feel" for a very good reason. The beauty of Alpaca is in its sheer softness and luxurious feel. It is naturally warm yet light, is extremely hard wearing and pilling resistant. Treated properly, a garment will last for many years.
